Barry Hakblok

Barry Hakblok is a rap alter-ego of an up and coming artist from Groningen. With his bass-heavy beats he’s addressing meaningful and sensitive subjects surrounding our self-actualization and the norms, values and politics that supress us. At the same time he is an unserious, playful and expressive musician and person that just wants to get you to shake your ass.

I have worked with Barry to shoot his artist profile images and his music videos, the latest release has been ‘Leugenaar’. More will follow soon.

Club Wauw

Club Wauw is a Groningen theatre collective by makers and performers Philipp Cahrpit & Hannegijs Jonker, creating performances for the very youngest audiences (0–6 years).

I worked with Club Wauw to create trailers for the performances Tent and Stilte, it was an absolute pleasure trying to capture the authentic, genuine interactions and reactions of the children they entertain and inspire.

Waerdefol Vitality Program

A promotional film for Waerdefol’s vitality project – a community program encouraging people that are struggling financially and/or with their mental health to come together for group exercise and healthy lunches.

Mental Health Campaign

Stukjes Glas

A film for USVA Theatre, featuring house poet Femke de Heer, performing her work ‘Er zitten stukjes glas tussen de tanden van het excelbestand’ — a sharp and tender poem about government cuts to higher education.

Together with Femke, we explored the visual translation of her words and created a film that lets her poem breathe.

Short Fiction Films

Every year, my friends and I take the Dutch ‘surprise’ tradition several steps further — building it into short films, songs, games, performances, and challenges for one another. Throughout the years I’ve made several short films based on the friends’ name that I drew. With their permission I’d like to showcase some of my favourite creations, that make enough sense to watch as an outsider. I love these projects -not because it’s fun among friends- but because of the complete creative freedom I have to try anything; from filming, editing, acting, creating beats, rapping and so on.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust is a poetic concert created by Philipp Cahrpit about coming home within ourselves and each other. Together with Philipp we captured his expressive and intimate one-man performance.

Waterlichamen

The week before the première of ‘Waterlichamen,’ I follow performers Cahrpit, Jonker and Persoon as they search for playful bridges between self, other, and environment. A documentary about their process — and about what it means to let the individual body dissolve into a collective one.

‘Last summer I met a group of people on the shore, and as we played at the boundary between land and sea I shed tears of happiness. “This is what life is about,” I thought. Do we not need this playful connecting as much as the water we drink? As we were playing on the beach I forgot about myself and became part of a collective. I let go of ‘me’ and streamed into the other.’

For three years, I worked as in-house multimedia designer at SAMEEN, a project bureau for sustainable development. I was responsible for all visual output within the company — from offline to online communication — and regularly stepped into client-facing projects whenever a visual or design solution was needed in the field.

In a multimedia dance performance, choreographer Mohamed Yusuf Boss unfolds the fragmented self — exploring bi-cultural identity through movement, memory, and community. For a year leading up to the première, I worked closely with the dance collective as social media manager, creating the teaser and working as production assistant.
